T: Good morning. Today we are going to continue studying the topic “Sport” and do different interesting exercises. But before we start our lesson, I would like to ask you one thing. Will you please remember what sport class you attended when you were children? Do you take up some sports now? |

Purpose: to let pupils work in teams

T: But before we start I will divide you into three groups. You can see a lot of little pictures (connected with our topic “Sport”) turned upside down. (Handout 1) Please, choose a picture for you. Pupils with the similar pictures get together and create a group. Each group has to discuss the questions I have asked you. Everyone should share their thought. You have 5 minutes for discussion.

T: Now I’m going to describe you some words and your task is to guess what it is. Also, I will share vocabulary with the pronunciation of this words and their translation into Ukrainian with you to practice their pronunciation. (Handout 2) So, let’s start. T: A building or club where people go to do physical exercise S: A gym. T: The state of being healthy and strong. S: Fitness. T: A document that gives details about how and when you will do physical exercise. S: A training plan. T: A period of time for a particular activity. S: A session. T: Money you pay so that you can do something such as join an organisation. S: A fee. T: A person who teaches a skill or a sport. S: An instructor. T: Great job. Now let’s drill all these words. Have a look at the handouts, there you can see the transcription of the words. Repeat after me all together. Now one by one. Good!

T: Let’s pay attention to several things that I have noticed. Please, look at the blackboard. You can see the sentence: “I take sport every Saturday.” What did we miss in this sentence? S: I take up sport every Saturday. T: Yes, you are right, we should use preposition “up” with the verb “take”. It means ‘займатися спортом’. We can also say “I do sport every Saturday” or “I go in for sport every Saturday”. Now tell me, please, is it correct to say [ˈbæd.mɪn.tən] or [ˈbæd.mɪn.ton]? S: [ˈbæd.mɪn.tən]. T: Yes, right answer. Repeat after me this word several times. Now look at the blackboard again. “Sport influences on our health positively” What is wrong in this sentence? S: Sport influences our health positively. T: Absolutely right. We don’t need to use preposition “on” with the verb “influence”. Also we can say “Sport has a positive influence on our healt”. Thank you for your work. Goodbye! |
